Timbaland & La La Anthony Developing Hip Hop Docuseries

Variety

by: Elizabeth Wagmeister

Leftfield Pictures is teaming up with Timbaland and La La Anthony to develop a hip hop docuseries, Variety has learned.

The unscripted series would revolve around Face Time Agency, the industry’s premiere casting agency for booking music video and hip hop fashion models. The company’s clients include Drake, Kanye West and Robin Thicke. Set inside the New York City nightlife scene, the series exposes the cutthroat entrepreneurial side of hip hop with models, DJs and social media stars hustling to break through as fashion, music and media moguls.

Timbaland, who serves as the exec music producer on “Empire” will have the same title on the hip hop docuseries. Anthony — a television personality, author and actress who’s appeared in “Chi-Raq,” “Power” and the “Think Like A Man” franchise — will serve as an exec producer on the potential series.

Leftfield Entertainment’s CEO David George will serve as an exec producer with Will Nothacker and Derek Gordon.

George commented: “La La and Timbaland are perfect examples of what can be achieved when talent, determination and creativity collide with entrepreneurship. We’re thrilled to be in business with these two entertainment innovators to create a series that uncovers a unique, rarified faction of hip hop and provides a true soundtrack for the unpredictable journey toward fame and fortune.”

“I’m thrilled to be executive producing a project that offers a true insider’s look into the business side of hip hop, especially one that explores the lives of fascinating women who have used hip hop as their platform to become successful entrepreneurs in fashion, music and more,” Anthony said.

Timbaland added, “I’m excited to continue to build my brand within the TV space. Projects like this, with music and culture at the center, are the sweet spot of my content play…lets go!”

The development project marks the first joint media venture between Timbaland and music agency Jingle Punks, which recently announced a partnership with Timbaland. Anthony and Face Time Agency are represented by UTA.
